Broadcast equipment could not be sourced locally and therefore satellite uplink equipment had to be airfreighted in just days before the Town Hall event.
IBM wanted to announce its decision to triple its investment in India with a Town Meeting in Bangalore. The IBM expansion committed six billion dollars in investment and would make IBM the largest foreign employer in India. The Town Meeting had an invitee list of 10,000 employees from five cities in India, financial analysts from all over the globe, IBM’s President in India and IBM’s corporate CEO. It took place on the Bangalore Palace Grounds, comprised of fifteen structures spread out over 33 acres. Rock-it customer Jack Morton Worldwide was hired to plan and run the event. Equipment and materials came in from all over – from Orlando 35,000 pounds of projectors, LED video walls, fragile lighting and sound equipment. From Robbinsville NJ came the plasma screens. Radio and satellite upload equipment came from Australia. High-tech lighting and office equipment had to be shipped from London. There wasn’t enough power on site, so two 10,000 pound electrical generators had to be flown in from CAT Entertainment in New Jersey. And finally all of the custom-made golf shirts for attendees and on-site employee clothing had to come from New York City.
