APR and Rock-It Supply Relief to Haiti
Summer 2010
ROCK-IT REPORT

APR Energy and Rock-It Cargo Partner for Haiti Relief

To address the devastation caused by the January earthquake in Haiti, Rock-it Cargo teamed up with APR Energy, a leading provider of turnkey temporary power generation services, and “Just a Bunch of Roadies” to deliver medical supplies and doctors to the earthquake zone. Rock-It’s CEO David Bernstein donated the use of his executive Boeing 707 for four flight rotations into and out of badly damaged Port au Prince, while John Campion, CEO of APR Energy, LLC. donated money to buy the fuel for two of the trips.

RIC and APR were able to put their expertise and connections to work immediately after the disaster. With the support of other donor organizations, RIC and APR airlifted more than 150 doctors and emergency personnel along with over 50,000 lbs. of medical supplies, valued at $2 million dollars, into the devastated area.

Several other groups came together to make the relief effort possible. Lori Tierney, partner of Satellite Office Services, coordinated the donation of medical supplies from Project C.U.R.E. Partners in Health supplied the medical staff.

Many employees representing APR Energy donated their time and efforts to make multiple trips into Port-au-Prince to ensure the prompt and accurate delivery of supplies.  One of these was David Turnier, an associate of APR Energy in Haiti, who arranged for trucking and security on the ground, guaranteeing the delivery to the University Hospital in Port-au-Prince.  APR Energy employee Steve Johnson served as the military liaison, coordinating the flight clearances and facilitating the trucks’ access to the tarmac in Port-au-Prince.

Veteran industry production manager Charlie Hernandez, working with the Roadies group, responded quickly to coordinate the delivery of much needed supplies and medical professionals while RIC Ops Agent, Ed Butler and APR’s Libby Owen, accompanied the shipments back and forth from Opa-Locka Airport in Miami-Dade, Florida to the Haitian capital. “It is very fulfilling to be able to help. The biggest moment for me was when one of the doctors that were being transported down [to Haiti] told me that the baby formula we delivered saved eight babies’ lives,” Butler commented.
"Roadies" supporters Jeff Stone and his wife also contributed to the fuel costs for the flights into Haiti.

Rock-It Cargo wants to thank APR ENERGY, LLC., the “Roadies” group, and Project Cure for this relief effort.  If you’d like to continue assistance in this effort please visit www.justabunchofroadies.com .
