Sports Logistics Veteran to Head Up New Global Sports Desk

Damian Schantz has an impressive resumé. His nearly two decades with DHL, Midnight Express and Schenker’s Global Sports Events has exposed him to the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat from a logistical vantage point seldom witnessed by the public. Having worked with the U.S. Olympic Committee, International Olympic Committee, sponsors and broadcasting companies at the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and Beijing, Schantz is looking forward to kicking off Rock-It’s most recent initiatives in the live sporting events arena.

Schantz understands the challenges of live event logistics first hand. During the Beijing Olympic Games he executed the shipment and delivery of two 53-foot trailers of broadcasting equipment from Los Angeles to Beijing in 72 hours. In order to pull it off, he consolidated shipments from multiple suppliers, arranged for an A.T.A. Carnet to be sent overnight via courier from New York, delivered the shipment at midnight to the airline, made a 6:00 a.m. flight to Beijing, cleared customs and delivered the equipment the same day to the broadcast venue.

Rock-It was a natural choice for Schantz. His experience with live sporting events blends well with Rock-It’s expertise in touring. “Most of the time live sporting events use the same venues as concerts,” he says. Few companies specialize in live events as Rock-It does. Most freight forwarders ship general merchandise as their core business with live events as a sideline. Schantz views the overlap between music and sporting events as an advantage. As senior account manager for Rock-It’s Global Sports Desk, he hopes to mine Rock-It’s current touring portfolio for additional opportunities. “I am extremely excited to be with Rock-It. My goal is to build a robust live sports event portfolio where we are the preferred provider for promoters and sponsors and a one stop shop for all their events,” he says.
