Opera Manon Lescaut in Shanghai

This summer, Rock-It Cargo Shanghai and Rock-it Cargo London provided freight forwarding services for the Royal Opera House and Shanghai Grand Theater co-production of Manon Lescaut. The production involved a total of 46,000kg of ocean freight and 853 kgs of airfreight travelling from the UK to China.

Due to port congestion, the vessel carrying the shipment departed Southampton nearly fourteen days behind schedule. In order to meet the tight load in schedule in Shanghai, the RIC team decided to meet the vessel at its first call in Hong Kong instead of waiting till the vessel arrived in Shanghai as originally planned. When the vessel arrived in port on the 23rd of August RIC arranged to have the fifteen 40’ containers be the first ones off the vessel. The team had fifteen special bonded trucks waiting at the port, which were loaded, passed through customs and inspection overnight and reloaded onto mainland Chinese chassis trucks. From there the cargo was trucked to Shanghai in time for the 25th August load in at the Shanghai Grand Theatre.
