Vancouver Agent Prepares for Olympic Challenge

Pacific Overseas Forwarding and Pacific Customs Brokers, a Vancouver, Canada based International Forwarder and Customs Broker, in partnership with Rock-It Cargo International, have been selected as the designated freight forwarder and customs broker for the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

When bid packages were distributed by the Olympic host organization, fifty-six companies including Pacific Overseas expressed an interest in bidding. Besides demonstrating logistics capabilities worldwide, bidders were required to prove that they were financially robust and capable of handling the type of complex logistics that the Olympic Winter Games require. “They forensically went through our business,” says Wickstead.

After exhaustive preparation and examination, Pacific Overseas Forwarding, a member of the Rock It Cargo worldwide network of agents, emerged with the coveted appointment. As the designated freight forwarder and customs broker for the games, Pacific Overseas and Rock-it Cargo will be handling shipments to and from Vancouver for the host organization, suppliers, sports teams and broadcasting organizations, among others.

There are additional benefits for Pan Pacific and Rock It Cargo besides the appointment for Vancouver. Pan Pacific has been appointed by the Canadian Olympic Committee to handle their post-game shipping requirements. Rock It Cargo U.S. has secured the U.S. Olympic Committee as a client to support them with logistics for other sporting events worldwide through 2012. Other members of the Rock It Cargo agent network have secured appointments from the Australian, Italian and Swedish Olympic Committees.

Pan Pacific has already begun preparations for the games scheduled for next February. Besides their dedicated staff they will train seventy-five additional staffers to handle on-site logistics for the Olympic Village and other event and media sites. “We have already cleared four hundred shipments and are moving freight daily for the host organization,” says Pan Pacific’s general manager.

For Adam Wickstead, the opportunity to handle the Winter Olympic Games is a matter of pride. “We have very strong roots in the community. We believe we are the best in Canada at what we do and we are so proud to be representing our country and our own city. This is our own back yard. Because of the projects that Rock It has put us through, we are able to provide wonderful solutions to complex problems and the legacy that will last beyond the games is incredible. We now have the ability to pass work on to our agents and promote our worldwide agency network,” he adds.
